Shared family experiences are shoulder-to-shoulder experiences where members of the family come together to have fun, learn something, or grow in faith together. The idea is that everyone is joining in the sharing—no one is the ‘leader’ or ‘expert.’ Parents are experiencing along with their children. Even a shared experience that isn’t faith-based creates bonds and a warm family culture that helps faith thrive. In this first part, I offer you 3 tips for creating shared family adventures that can be tied to our faith with short, organic discussions .
Family adventures
- Go to a local park, zoo, or wildlife sanctuary and discuss the glory of God’s creation.
- Participate in a physical challenge: hike, climb, swim, ropes course, kayak, etc. and thank God for the abilities He gave you.
- As a family serve the poor or needy by shopping for the food pantry, making sandwiches for the homeless, helping at a soup kitchen, visiting a nursing home, children’s home, or animal shelter, etc. Talk about sharing the gifts God gives you with others in need.
Maybe your family has other activities you like to do. Ask your family members what adventures they would like to have.
